Henry DeRamus Jr. is a writer, storyteller, and cultural voice whose work reflects the resilience, struggle, and strength born out of South Central Los Angeles. Through powerful storytelling rooted in lived experience, he writes about survival, identity, family legacy, and the spiritual journey of overcoming adversity.
Growing up in an environment where chaos, street politics, and broken systems often shaped young lives, Henry witnessed firsthand the realities many people only hear about in headlines. Those experiences became the foundation for his writing. Rather than glorifying the struggle, his work exposes the deeper truth behind it—how pain, trauma, and survival can either break a person or build unshakable character.
His book Bulletproof Roots explores that idea. The story looks at how strong individuals can emerge from the harshest environments, carrying the wisdom of the streets while searching for something greater—purpose, truth, and redemption. Through raw reflection and cinematic storytelling, Henry captures the emotional and psychological battles faced by people growing up in urban America.
Beyond writing, Henry is also the creator of The Black Talk Show, a platform dedicated to meaningful conversations about culture, identity, and unity within the Black community. His work consistently challenges people to think deeper about the forces shaping their lives while encouraging self-awareness, strength, and collective progress.
Henry writes with a voice that is honest, reflective, and unapologetically real. His mission is simple: to tell the stories that rarely get told, preserve the truth of where he comes from, and inspire others who grew up in similar environments to recognize the power of their own roots.
Because sometimes the strongest people don't come from perfect places.
They come from bulletproof roots.
